I love the color and build of this
stud but more than that he and his black mare had a
foal that was very sick (she is lying in the grass out
of site). I noticed the sick filly the day I found them
she just looked weak and frail. I found them for six
consecutive days each day watching the filly get
sicker. It was very hard to watch and not be able to
help. On the sixth day, right before I was due to head
home I went to look for them one more time. I found them
in the same spot as the day before. As I approached the
filly was lying flat out on the ground she looked
dead. The stud and mare let me go to the filly. I gently
stroked her little body she was still alive but just
barely. The mare and stud whinnied to me but seemed to
know that I met no harm and just wanted to say goodbye.
I must admit I cried most of the way home. The amazing
part of this story is that the parents never left this
little ones side they stayed with her until she
passed. It is common in wild horse bands that if a foal
is sick and cannot keep up the band will abandon the
foal. This pair of wild horses is special in my eyes
because they never left their foal alone they stayed
until the end. I havent seen this pair again but I hope
to in the future.
